Seducing Spirits, Strongholds, and the Renewing of the Mind: A Biblical Approach to Spiritual Freedom In 1 Timothy 4:1, the apostle Paul gives a solemn warning: “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.” Before we get started, I personally believe that Revelation 9 could be speaking of the day that these seducing spirits are being released because we are in that day. They are deceiving lots of people, even Christians. I see, even last Sunday right at the end of church with an anti-christ demon had this poor lady so twisted and bound, the spirit agitated by the anointing. Speaking profanities and twisted truth. We have seen this time and time again from church, the café meetings we have and street ministry. However, most people do not even know they have taken on that influence and subtle oppression. The Greek word translated “deceitful” or “seducing” is planos (πλάνης), meaning to lead astray, to cause someone to wander, or to deceive. This reminds us that spiritual deception is not imaginary or symbolic—it is real, and it can profoundly influence the human mind, behavior, and spiritual condition. A seducing spirit does not always deny truth outright; instead, it distorts it. It can take what God clearly calls sin and repackages it as something acceptable or even good. For example, the truth that “God is love” can be twisted into the idea that sin no longer matters. Or God knows and understands. Someone who calls attention to sinful behavior may then be labeled hateful, even when they are addressing actions rather than condemning a person’s worth. It is true that God loves everyone. Yet Scripture also teaches that God hates sin and that spiritual laws remain in place—what a person sows, that he will also reap. God’s love does not cancel His holiness, nor does it remove the consequences of persistent rebellion. The work of demonic deception is to twist truth gradually, dull the conscience, and blur the line between righteousness and sin. If truth continues to be rejected, the danger is that one may persist in deception until life itself is over—when repentance is no longer possible. Spiritual freedom, therefore, requires discernment, repentance, and the renewing of the mind according to God’s Word, so that truth remains clear and deception loses its power. ________________________________________ Understanding Seducing Spirits in Daily Life Seducing spirits, or planos spirits, are often subtle in their approach. They rarely attack openly; instead, they infiltrate gradually, blending into a person’s thought patterns. In many cases, these spirits begin influencing the mind in childhood, embedding themselves so seamlessly into personality that the person may not even recognize their presence. From a biblical perspective, these spirits aim to: • Distort truth and instill lies. • Lead individuals into doubt, fear, confusion, or false security. • Create spiritual strongholds in the mind, making obedience to God and understanding of His Word increasingly difficult. Over time, this spiritual deception can manifest in ways that appear natural—habitual thought patterns, ingrained reactions, emotional triggers, or persistent rationalizations of sin. Because the deception feels normal, it often goes unchallenged. ________________________________________ The Mind Under Siege: Strongholds and Spiritual Entrenchment The Bible describes entrenched patterns of thought as strongholds. Exactly what these seducing-demons desire to build up. In 2 Corinthians 10:4–5, Paul writes: “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” A stronghold is not merely a bad habit. It is a fortified pattern of thinking that resists God’s truth. It may include: • Deep-seated beliefs rooted in deception. • Justifications for ongoing sin. • Persistent fear, pride, rebellion, or unbelief. • False doctrines that subtly contradict Scripture. When seducing spirits operate over long periods, these strongholds can become deeply embedded. The mind adapts to the deception. Conscience becomes dulled. Discernment weakens. What once troubled the heart may no longer do so. If left unchecked, this process can resemble spiritual dementia—a gradual erosion of clarity, conviction, and sensitivity to truth. ________________________________________ When Exorcism Becomes Necessary In some cases, deception progresses beyond strongholds into deeper spiritual oppression. Scripture records instances where demons required direct expulsion, such as in Mark 5:1–20, and many others. We have a lot of teaching, and more coming, even testimonies from others who gained freedom, and rebuilding from our website www.dgimpact.org. Exorcism, or casting out demons, is not sensationalism—it is an act of spiritual authority exercised in the name of Jesus. It may become necessary when: • There is persistent, unyielding spiritual bondage. • Strongholds resist all ordinary repentance and renewal efforts. • Manifest spiritual oppression is evident. However, exorcism is not a substitute for renewing the mind. Even after deliverance, the individual must actively replace former deception with truth. Jesus warned that when an unclean spirit leaves and finds the “house” empty, it may attempt to return. Therefore, deliverance must be followed by renewal, obedience, and spiritual discipline. Exorcism addresses the spirit. Renewing the mind addresses the agreement. Both may be required for complete freedom. I will also add this; deliverance is the children’s bread…I do not recommend deliverance for unbelievers. ________________________________________ Renewing the Mind: God’s Prescribed Path to Freedom The answer to deception is not merely exposure—it is transformation. Romans 12:2 instructs: “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Renewing the mind is not positive thinking. It is the intentional replacement of lies with the truth of God’s Word. This process involves: 1. Identification of Deception Through prayer and the light of Scripture, false beliefs are exposed. The Holy Spirit brings conviction where strongholds exist. 2. Repentance Repentance is more than regret—it is a turning. It involves acknowledging agreement with deception and choosing alignment with truth. 3. Renunciation Lies must be verbally and spiritually rejected. Agreement with sin or deception must be broken. 4. Tearing Down Strongholds Using spiritual weapons—prayer, Scripture, obedience, and the authority of Jesus—believers actively dismantle entrenched thought systems that oppose God. 5. Rebuilding with Truth Truth must fill the space deception once occupied. Scripture memorization, meditation, and obedience establish new, godly patterns of thought. Renewal is not instantaneous. It is deliberate and ongoing. ________________________________________ Childhood Exposure and Personality Integration One of the most difficult aspects of seducing spirits is early integration. When deception is introduced during childhood—through trauma, false teaching, occult exposure, or habitual sin—it can merge with personality development. The individual may grow up believing: • “This is just who I am.” • “This is normal.” • “Everyone thinks this way.” Over time, deception becomes identity. This is so prevalent, example after example end this end-of-the-time culture (Age of Grace). Breaking such integration requires careful discernment, patient repentance, and sometimes deliverance ministry. What feels like personality may actually be spiritual agreement formed early in life. ________________________________________ The Battle for Conscience and Clarity Seducing spirits aim to dull the conscience. The line between righteousness and sin becomes blurred. Justifications become easier. Conviction grows weaker. But God has not left believers defenseless. The Word of God sharpens discernment. Prayer restores sensitivity. Fellowship provides accountability. Obedience strengthens clarity. Where deception clouds the mind, truth restores vision. ________________________________________ A Comprehensive Biblical Path to Freedom True spiritual freedom involves several interconnected steps: 1. Discernment of deception. 2. Repentance for agreement with lies. 3. Renunciation of strongholds. 4. Deliverance or exorcism when necessary. 5. Consistent renewing of the mind. 6. Ongoing obedience and spiritual vigilance. 7. Importance of relationship with God is vital. (He leads us to triumph) Freedom is rarely instantaneous. It is often progressive. Layers of deception may need to be addressed one by one. But Scripture promises that truth sets people free. ________________________________________ Warning and Hope The danger of seducing spirits is real. Deception can span decades if left unchallenged. It can distort theology, justify sin, and numb conviction. Yet there is profound hope. No stronghold is stronger than truth. No deception is more powerful than the Word of God. No spirit has authority over the name of Jesus. Through repentance, spiritual authority, and the renewing of the mind, clarity can be restored. Judgment can be sharpened. Conscience can be revived by the Holy Spirit. Spiritual freedom is not merely the absence of oppression—it is the presence of truth governing the mind. ________________________________________ Conclusion Seducing spirits work gradually. Strongholds form quietly. Deception blends into personality. But God provides a clear path to freedom: • Discern the deception. • Repent of agreement. • Tear down strongholds. • Exercise authority when deliverance is required. • Renew the mind daily with God’s Word. A mind aligned with truth becomes fortified against future deception. Clarity returns. Conviction strengthens. Peace settles in. The battlefield is the mind. The weapon is truth. The victory comes through renewal and obedience and even deliverance from these seducing spirits, and any other demon that has hijacked the mind.
